Official Launch of Ready, Willing, and Able (RWA) Phase 2
Inclusion Canada and the Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorders Alliance (CASDA) are pleased to announce the launch of RWA Phase 2. RWA is a national employment program for persons with an intellectual disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Federal Budget 2019 committed a $12 million investment to Phase 2 of the Ready, Willing, and Able (RWA) program, which will enable RWA to again be active in all provinces and territories, within 20 primary communities. Secured funding from the Government of Canada will enable RWA to continue its work with employers and community agencies across the country to generate employment opportunities for persons with an intellectual disability or ASD. RWA Phase 2 will operate until March 2022.
“RWA is one of the most successful national employment initiatives of its kind in the history of this country. It has drastically changed the quality of life for persons with an intellectual disability or autism and has supported a more inclusive labour market in Canada. We are very grateful that this investment from the federal government will enable its continuation.” (Debbie Irish, Chairperson of CASDA).
RWA has brought real outcomes and has empowered thousands of job seekers with an intellectual disability or ASD who previously were unable to enter or remain in the competitive labour force while providing employers with a source of talent that was previously all too often overlooked.
“We know that with targeted support, community involvement and employer leadership, job seekers with an intellectual disability or ASD can obtain and retain employment within the labour market. They can engage in ‘real work for real pay’. We believe that the funding of RWA Phase 2 signals and reinforces government’s commitment to an inclusive and accessible Canada.” (Joy Bacon, President of Inclusion Canada).
RWA Phase 2 will allow us to continue working toward our vision of an inclusive and effective labour market, in which the employment rate for persons with an intellectual disability or ASD is on par with the national average.
