Navigating Entrepreneurship: The Power of Adaptability and Resilience

“With Dedication and Determination, Dreams Can Indeed Become Reality”
– Mallory Pigage

In the dynamic world of entrepreneurship, resilience and adaptability serve as guiding principles for success. Mallory Pigage, the driving force behind Mallory’s Postering Services, embodies these qualities as she navigates the challenges and triumphs of running her own business. We first told Mallory’s story in 2022 (“Mallory’s Postering Service: Making Self-Employment Work.”), when her business was riding out the aftereffects of the pandemic. At that point she’d had to pivot her successful 7-year postering business into a variety of other endeavours just to keep things going, and was hoping to hire back her assistant, whom she’d had to lay off during the slowdown of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Always the pragmatist and optimist, Mallory was full steam ahead and ready to meet whatever the future threw her way.

Reflecting on her journey since, Mallory shared, “You need a lot of patience for this kind of job because if you start out small and then you end up growing bigger, then you need patience to do other jobs in that small amount of time.” This patience has been instrumental in Mallory’s strategic approach to business development, allowing her to adapt and grow amidst changing circumstances. While the time since 2022 has seen Mallory’s Postering Service return to prosperity, there have also been some challenges for Mallory which has meant that not only has her business evolved, but so too her role within it.

Increasingly, Mallory has relied on support to manage some of the more physically demanding postering and delivery services, while she spends more of her time overseeing the administrative aspects of her business, which have grown exponentially along with the business’ expansion. This said, Mallory still personally conducts coffee deliveries every Thursday as part of her commitment to customer service.

A significant change since 2022 has been that Mallory has been able to hire an assistant, Darius, whom she describes as “the best teammate.” Darius, who coincidentally got connected to Mallory through a high school-to-work transition program funded by Ready, Willing, and Able, brings valuable expertise to Mallory’s Postering. He contributes to different parts of the business including putting up posters, making deliveries, and assisting with various other jobs as needed. Darius’s versatility and dedication make him an essential member of the team, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. Mallory highlights the importance of surrounding oneself with skilled and dedicated team members in entrepreneurial endeavors. As business continues to increase for Mallory, she is now looking at the possibility of hiring a second staff member to assist as a driver.

In navigating the entrepreneurial journey, Mallory offers valuable insights for aspiring business owners, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and perseverance. As she aptly puts it, “You have to move with the times.” Mallory’s willingness to pivot and seize opportunities has been instrumental in the growth and success of her business.

Moreover, Mallory’s commitment to fostering community partnerships and nurturing client relationships has been a cornerstone of her business strategy. She emphasizes the significance of networking, stating, “Mallory’s all about networking.” This dedication to building relationships has not only enhanced Mallory’s Postering’s reputation but also facilitated its expansion into new markets and communities, like local theatres, art centres, such as the Guild Hall as well as significant partnerships with various Yukon government departments.

As Mallory’s Postering continues to thrive, its impact extends beyond business success, serving as a beacon of inspiration for fellow entrepreneurs. Mallory’s story underscores the transformative power of resilience and determination, reminding us that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible. As Mallory puts it, “with dedication and determination, dreams can indeed become reality.”
